it's like magic

Ok first off let me just say that I don't work for Benefit.  I was however looking in their catalog and the above product certainly caught my eye.  Let's just say I am the type of girl that needs guidance when it comes to new cosmetics and hair products.  I just don't have that girlie girl gene.  So on the afternoon of a wedding Memorial Day weekend I went to my local Benefit counter to see if this Erase Paste was for real.  It was, it is and oh my gosh I can't believe what this little jar is capable of.  It covers EVERYTHING.  I won't go into detail but let's just say my dark circles under my eyes and that unseemingly adult acne (what is that about?) are a worry no more.  You need to buy some now, before I buy it all.  Just in case they decide to discontinue it or something.

pile of memories

Photo of photos

I was trying to do something different.  I took a polaroid of a stack of my newly aquired vintage photos.  I like the way that they are all different colors even though they are all black and white photos.  I like how some of the images are more prominent and others look ghostly.

Happy Friday.  Enjoy your weekend.

summer reads

Here are some of the things I have been reading this summer.

Junior mag

I subscribed to this UK magazine a while ago and got my first issue.  It is very similar to Cookie Magazine here in the state but with more cheeky humor.  Although it is interesting the price of the subscription doesn't seem justified as it isn't that fabulous or unusual.

Lotta prints

Now I am sure you have seen this on other blogs.  I held out on getting it for some reason.  After owning it I am not exactly sure why.  There are a ton of fun projects, lots of great information and detailed directions.  I can't wait until I have a minute to organize a project.  If you are on the fence about buying this, take the plunge. Perfect for some summertime fun.

Wonderboy

A real book. It's been a while.  This friend sent it to me as we have a kind of book exchange thingy going on.  I liked it, it was interesting.  Very much chick lit but not in an annoying way.  A fast read without too much effort.

florida 1959

Florida 1959

I just picked up four bags stuffed with vintage photos at the antique store the other day.  They are filled with some much goodness.  The one above is actually not from that batch but is one of the house photos i have collected. It reminds me of Florida in 1959.  Can anyone confirm or deny my theory?

How about a little give away too. Let me know your favorite subject of a vintage photo and I will send you one.  Trying my best of course, to incorporate your favorite subject.  Let's say the first 10 commenter's get a photo.

say cheese-random bits about taking pictures

Camera photo

picture by the lovely christa fleming

I first saw this picture here. What can I say the girl's got impeccable taste.  I knew the minute I saw it that I had to have it, so now I have one too.  Isn't it dreamy???  Funny what I think of as dreamy as I get older.

The other day my daughter and I were at a yogurt shop.  I took a bite of my yogurt and happened to look down at the spoon.  There in my spoon was a perfect yogurt heart.  I showed my daughter and then wistfully ate the bite. You wanted to take a picture of it didn't you? she asked.  Yes I said.  You should have, she said.  God I love that child

Unfortunately serious picture taking has been taking a back seat around here lately. I am missing it terribly.  Actually I tried to take some unserious pictures on Saturday at our company picnic that turned into bar hopping and the result was not so good. I managed to burn through more than a pack of polaroid film and got about one decent pick.  I guess the lesson there folks is don't drink and polaroid.

summertime fun

Aquarium

Hi everyone. This picture pretty much sums up our first week of summer vacation together.  Crazy and fun.  We went and saw Kung Foo Panda. (too violent in my opinion) Went to Birch Aquarium. A haircut for the girl.  A trip to Toys R Us for the girl (she received a gift certificate for highest accelerated reader) Went to see Sex and the City (again) with a friend.  My company picnic at Crown Pointe.  A trip to LA to visit my favorite people and to see A Chorus Line.  Phew, I am tired just reading this. Meanwhile I am fighting a nasty summer cold.  Needless to say today is being spent in our pajamas at home.  See you tomorrow.

something different

Self portrait one

A polaroid of me :: taken with my Polaroid Sun 600 LMS

This is weird for me.  Yes I have shown photos of me on this blog before.  Usually I am with other people.  Yes there has been a whole self portrait movement on blogs and flickr.  Somehow though it feel odd to me to take a picture solely for the purpose of posting on my blog.  I did it though to get through the uncomfortableness, to get out of my comfort zone.  I think at this point in my life I might be scared at what the camera might show.  Dark circles, lines, skin that isn't as young as it used to be. I experimented with my new 680 and I was pleasantly surprised that I didn't look as old as I thought.  The 680 takes much clearer close ups than the 600.  That is the whole reason I bought the camera in the first place.  Still though I give you the blurry version of me from the 600.  Not yet brave enough for my close up.

summertime

Imported Photos 00020

This was my photo for the May Nectar and Light photo trade:: Losing Focus:  Find beauty in the blur.  It was the first time I have ever participated in anything like this.  It took me forever to take a photo I thought was worthy.

So today is the officially the first day of summer in our house.  I am going to try and make a conscious effort to make this a fun summer for all of us.  This doesn't include spending a ton of time at home in front of the computer.  However my blog is important to me so I will be trying to do post ahead of time.

On the new camera front.  I think the new film did the trick although I haven't had much more than a minute to experiment.  I am hoping for more of that to come this week.

Thanks for all your comments regarding the vintage photo in the last post.  Would anyone be up for a vintage photo swap?  Let me know and I will see if there is any interest.

Sorry for the random post but the kids are chomping at the bit to go do something.  I promised them we would.  Summer, here we come.
